About Finca La Sola

Leslie Nanne is an artist who entered the coffee world in 2018, although her family has been involved in coffee farming ever since her grandfather bought a coffee farm in the 60s. In 2002, they had the opportunity to buy a piece of a neighboring farm, which they called La Sola, located in San Marcos in the municipality of Quetzal. The farm is located between 1350 and 1768 meters above sea level, and much of the farm is virgin forest. The farm has several varieties of coffee, primarily Bourbon and Caturra, but they also grow other, rust-resistant varieties that are well-suited for the farm’s altitude.

La Sola is committed to being an environmental refuge as well as a coffee farm. The protection of the environment is an important consideration in all of the farm’s operations. Leslie sees the conservation of the forest as essential because the rest of the mountain where the farm is located is subject to deforestation, as the land is used for cattle or other crops. La Sola is committed to maintaining adequate tree coverage on their land to protect the biodiversity of the local flora and fauna.

For Leslie and her family, preserving the farm is like preserving human history, too. The farm was created by migrants from Europe, and their stories are still important to the local population today.

In the future, Leslie and the team at La Sola hope to increase coffee production and return to organic coffee farming. In everything they do, the well-being of their community and of the environment are their top priorities.
