About Finca Monte Verde

The Acatenango coffee zone, Chimaltenango Guatemala, developed since 1880. Also known as “Tierra del Café”, it is an area in which mountains, volcanoes and microclimates converge. These in turn create connectivity and biological corridors between forest remnants, thus being safe paths for many species of birds, both migratory and local. Many species of animals converge in this area and it is the Monte Verde's responsibility to care for and protect them.

The family of producers began 80 years ago in the municipality of Acatenango within a small village called El Socorro. Finca Monte Verde's coffee (which goes by the Cerro Verde brand) is produced by women. They constitute the fourth generation of coffee growers and for the Meléndez sisters, being coffee producers is honoring the work and effort of their ancestors - mainly their father. Despite not growing working on the farm, said coffee production is in the hands of small producers who, with their experience, dedication and love of coffee, select the highest quality beans and, in turn, carry out an artisan preparation with the one that have managed to captivate the palate of many.

The coffee crop is under shade, which becomes an artificial forest. Combined with the microclimates, volcanoes and mountains it creates a unique flavor in the coffee of this region. The coffee process is very important to be able to reach a quality cup by doing different processes such as washing, natural and honey, all in an artisanal way. Finca Monte Verde is trying to make itself known by participating in different regional competitions giving good results and with the great satisfaction of telling you that the 2019-2020 harvest we won first place in the Anacafe regional competition. This valuable experience has prompted them to renew the land as much as possible while maintaining the excellent quality of the coffee. Currently, his coffee is found with unique notes of honey, orange, chocolate, pineapple and strawberry.

Looking ahead, the Meléndez sisters hope to sell parchment coffee, build more African beds. All this, in order to continue with the production of the best possible coffee and create a better life for those who follow it.
