About Finca Santa María

Despite coming from a farming and trading family, Delmy never had direct contact with coffee production in the area where she grew up, which was a coastal area in the east of the El Salvador. At her mother's store, Delmy remembers that among the most valuable products was coffee, and together with her family, they thought how good it would be to have their own coffee farm and business. Due to the difficult situation that El Salvador went through in the 80's with the civil war, Delmy made the decision to leave her hometown and move with Oscar (her husband) to the west of the country, where he is from. which has a cooler climate and is surrounded by coffee farms.

Time passed until, in 2003, the opportunity arose for Delmy and Oscar to acquire a small farm in the mountains, very close to the town where they lived. This property was in total abandonment, but they saw favorable conditions within it, such as altitude, climate, land, water and availability of the locals to work; this, coupled with the experience of Oscar's father as a farm manager, made both of them (Delmy and Oscar) set out to lead a coffee farm, which they called: Santa María.

Finca Santa María is located a few kilometers away from the picturesque town of Concepción de Ataco, in cantón El Naranjito, department of Ahuachapán. It is made up of approximately 17 acres of land located at an altitude of 1,250 meters above sea level. Together, Delmy and Oscar, cultivated coffee from scratch and put a lot of love and passion to the farm, until they filled the land with plants that were grown under partial shade, with organic fertilizer and with irrigation from a natural water source.

One thing Delmy is proud of is the quality of her coffee; which she attributes to the fact that she  has only dedicated herself to one variety: San Pacho, a variety that originates in Guatemala, which is known in this country as “Pache” because of its characteristics of having a low, flat-topped tree stature. Its popular name: “San Pacho” is due to its resistance to winds and rust.

Dedicating herself to a single varietal has allowed Delmy to learn more about its characteristics and benefits, even though this varietal is not a very recognized variety among Salvadoran farms. However, she is convinced that this makes her coffee unique thanks to the good results obtained on evaluations and to the positive comments about its good taste. This allowed her to start marketing her coffee, which is reason enough for her to feel proud and motivated to continue working together with her family on their farm, always giving her best.
